Jakarta: The latest Consumer Survey performed by Bank Indonesia (BI) in May 2021 revealed how consumer optimism in economic conditions has continued to grow.
The Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) increased to 104.4 in the reporting period from 101.5 in April 2021.
"Consumer optimism was observed to improve across most spending, education and age brackets," said BI Communication Department Head Erwin Haryono in a press release on Wednesday.
Regionally, consumers were more upbeat in six of the surveyed cities, led by Medan, Surabaya and Manado.
Consumer optimism in May 2021 was stoked by consumer perception of current economic conditions, despite remaining below the 100-point threshold indicating pessimism, particularly in terms of job availability, incomes and conditions for buying durable goods.
Meanwhile, consumer expectations of economic conditions moving forward remained relatively stable, with expectations of job availability improving, while expectations of business activity and income remaining solid yet below the level recorded one month earlier.
