medcom.id, Manado: The government will develop Bitung Port as International Hub Sea Port. Comprehensive policies are needed to achieve the goal.
The required policies including development of port and its supporting infrastructures, industries, commodities as well as human resources. Coordinating Minister of Economy, Darmin Nasution, stated development of Bitung Port must be accelerated.
"In the future, belted logistics center should be created. There, products could be standarded and graded for exports. Port is not enough. We also have to develop industries," mentioned Darmin Nasution in Manado, North Sulawesi, as quoted from a press release in Jakarta, Thursday (2/25/2016).
Bitung Port is intended as international hub sea port in the Pacific Ocean. "Currently, 40 percent of the global trade activities cross the Indonesian water. However, the economic benefits for us are still too small.
"It is still depending on Singapore and other countries," he added.
The government prepares two ports as international hub sea ports, Bitung in North Sulawesi and Kuala Tanjung in North Sumatra.
