medcom.id, Changi: The Ministry of Industry supports the expansion of Indonesian companies in the field of aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO). The ministry believes the expansion could also boost aircraft component industry.
"Expansion is smart and strategic decision, it will be beneficial to the related industry and also creating market for the Indonesian aircraft components," mentioned the Minister of Industry Saleh Husin when visiting the Singapore Airshow 2016, in Changi Airport, Singapore, as quoted in a press release, Thursday (2/18/2016).
Currently, MRO industry in Indonesia is gaining momentum as commercial airlines in the country is rapidly growing.
"Several local MRO companies are preparing expansion such as Garuda Indonesia through its subsidiary GMF AeroAsia and the Lion group. MRO industry in Bintan is being developed by PT Bintan Aviation Investment, which is in cooperation with GMF. The location selection is perfect, as it is near Singapore. The market is there," he explained.
Saleh said the government is trying to boost the industry with fiscal and non-fiscal incentives. Therefore, the MRO companies could develop their maintenance facilities.
