medcom.id, Jakarta: Not only Indonesian businessmen and companies, Indonesian officials are reportedly also mentioned in the leaked offshore records dubbed as Panama Papers.
Chief Editor of Tempo Magazine Arif Zulkifli said his team has investigated the leaked data for a year. Tempo is the only Indonesian media that received the documents from German daily newspaper Siuddeutsche Zeitung.
"Besides businessmen, we also find officials," said Arif to Metro TV, Tuesday (4/5/2016) night. However, he did not reveal any name.
Arief explained there are also unknown Indonesian names in the documents. His team suspected the names are used as cover by influential figures in the country.
"Our investigation leads to important figures. So they open shell company using other people's name," he continued.
Arif admitted Tempo has met with several people mentioned in the documents. The magazine asked them to be opened with the findings.
Panama Papers exposed misconducts in global offshore industry where some people use it to avoid tax or hide their fortunes.
