Annisa ayu artanti • 28 June 2016 12:10
medcom.id, Jakarta: The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has denied coal export ban to the Philippines. The ministry's director general of minerals and coal Bambang Gatot said Indonesian companies have long-term contracts with Philippine power plants.

"If we implement moratorium, who will compensate the contracts?" he told reporters in Jakarta, Monday, June 27.

According to him, the government is studying alternative routes for coal shipments to the Philippines.

"We are studying the options. We need to avoid South Sulu due to piracy," he continued.

Seven Indonesian sailors were kidnapped in southern Philippine waters last week. It is the third such incident in recent months.
