medcom.id, Jakarta: The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) has advised the government not to import gas.
Kadin chairman Rosan Perkasa Roeslani admitted the policy could lower gas prices. However, it would hinder local gas industry.
"We need to be more efficient. We need to change mindsets," said Rosan on the sidelines of Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) 2016 at Jakarta International Expo Kemayoran in Jakarta on Thursday (10/13).
"Our oil and gas industry would be stuck," he continued.
Previously, acting Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan proposed to import gas for Western Indonesia region.
"We do not need to bring liquefied natural gas from Papua to Aceh. We could import cheaper gas from Malaysia or Brunei," he said.
Gas prices in Indonesia are around USD9/mmbtu, while gas prices in Malaysia are around USD4/mmbtu.
