Banking Industry Urges BI to Lower Rate

Eko Nordiansyah • 17 February 2016 16:03

medcom.id, Jakarta: CIMB Niaga's transaction banking chief Hendra Lembong wishes Bank Indonesia (BI) lowers its benchmark interest rate (BI rate) again.

"We hope it could be lowered. The question is when. We will wait," said Hendra in his office, Jakarta, Wednesday (2/17/2016).

BI lowered its rate 0.25 percent to 7.25 percent last month. The central bank mentioned the possibility to lower the rate again is still open.

Hendra said last month's BI rate cut has not yet affected the banking industry. "The impact is low to banking transactions," he added.

BI is holding Board of Governors Meeting today (2/17). Many observers expect BI to lower its rate again this month.
