medcom.id, Jakarta: Coordinating Ministry of Economy, Darmin Nasution admitted that domestic pharmaceutical industry is still highly dependent on imported raw materials. However, the industry's development is improving within the past couple of years.
"It has high import, but this is an industry which has good improvement in the past several years," he said at his office, Jalan Lapangan Banteng, Central Jakarta, Monday evening (10/19/2015).
Therefore, the government is to prepare the regulation to boost the development of pharmaceutical industry from the supply of raw material to the down streaming of the industry.
"That we have to form, not only the downstream industry, but also the raw materials in the upstream," explained Darmin.
He added that in several countries, the supply of pharmaceutical industry has been regulated tightly, as the government is in need of finding the perfect measure in developing the industry itself.
"Because it is the area which is, to be honest, highly regulated in other countries. We have to find a way to develop it. If you ask what, we haven't gotten there yet," disclosed Darmin.
