medcom.id, Jakarta: Minister of Industry Saleh Husin revealed the German automotive brand of Volkswagen (VW) may be produced in Indonesia by 2017.
"The owner of VW through its subsidiary had met with me and said they want to invest in Indonesia. They want to invest with Indomobil," said the minister when met at the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Office, Jakarta, Friday, August 14, 2015.
Husin mentioned that the German automotive industry was very interested in investing in Indonesia. Previously, VW has invested in China and Malaysia.
"In China they have succeeded (the investment). In Malaysia, they have failed," mentioned the minister.
Aside from that, VW is prepared to spend an investment fund of US$700-800 million, or equal to Rp9-10 trillion,
Husin revealed that VW was intending to meet him again to discuss the ground breaking. Currently, the German company has passed the stage of land acquisition in the industrial complex.
"They want to meet me for ground breaking. They have acquired land at the industrial complex," explained the minister.
