medcom.id, Jakarta: The Ministry of Maritime and Fishery intensifies promotion of Indonesian pearls. The ministry implements steps to strengthen the branding of Indonesia South Sea Pearl (ISSP).
The ministry's director general of competitiveness development, Nilanto Perbowo stated that to promote and strengthen ISSP's brand in the international market, government should introduce domestic pearl products to international market.
"One of the steps we have taken is participating in international exhibitions, including the Dubai International Jewellery Week (DIJW). We want Indonesian pearl products to be known internationally," mentioned Nilanto in a written statement.
Nilanto continued the ministry also establishes economic relationships and partnerships with international pearl producers based on government to government (g to g), business to business (b to b) or business to government (b tog) scheme.
"The partnership may increase Indonesia's brand image as the world's largest producer of South Sea Pearls," he added.
DIJW was the largest annual international jewelry exhibition in Middle East. In 2015, it exhibited more than 140,000 types of jewelries with 250 exhibitors from 25 nations, among others the UAE, Hong Kong, Japan, Australia, India, Italy, Turkey, Singapore, Thailand, South Korea, USA dan South Africa.
During DIJW 2015, KKP facilitated four Indonesian pearl enterprises namely Rosario Mutiara (Central Jakarta, DKI Jakarta), MJM Jewelry (Mataram, NTB), Maisya Jewelry (Bogor, West Java) and Nurhikmah Pearls (Central Jakarta, DKI Jakarta).
Transactions in Indonesian pavilion in DIJW 2015 reached USD74,622 for south sea pearls, comprising of loose pearls at USD29,190 (39 percent) and jewelries at USD45,432 (61 percent) with buyers from Arab Emirates, India, Kuwait, Qatar, the Philippines, US, Belgium, China, and Germany.
