medcom.id, Balikpapan: Pertamina believes Indonesia may export fuel to ASEAN countries in the near future. Pertamina director of processing Rachmad Hardadi mentioned that Indonesia will be self sufficient in fuel in 2023.

"In 2023, according to a study, we don't need to import fuel anymore," Rachmad stated in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, on Thursday (6/9/2016).

he explained at that time Indonesia's refining capacity will reach two million barrels per day. It will be enough to fulfill demand in the country.

"We may export the excess to ASEAN countries," he continued.

The government currently tries to boost the country's refining capacity by upgrading existing refineries as well as building new refineries. It eyes several oil producers including Iran and Saudi Arabia to supply crude oil to the refineries.
