medcom.id, Jakarta: The government has confirmed that it will continue Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA) negotiation despite possible withdrawal of the United Kingdom (UK) from the EU.
Minister of Trade Thomas Trikasih Lembong mentioned that the EU is important market for Indonesia. Indonesia will maintain good relations with both the EU and the UK.
Indonesia and the EU has completed preliminary negotiation in April 2016. Lembong explained the negotiation will not be repeated from the beginning.
"Even though the member countries may decrease from 28 to 27," he continued.
He added that the government is exploring separate trade agreement with the UK.
IEU-CEPA negotiation is expected to be completed in 2017. Indonesia needs the trade agreement to compete with Vietnam and other developing countries in the European market.
