Minister Susi Hopes EU Gives Punishment to Thailand

medcom.id, Jakarta: European Union (EU) gave a yellow card, or a warning, to Thailand for fish looting and and crew slavery in Indonesian waters. As a result, some of Thailand's fishing products are restricted from several European markets.

Addressing the issue, Minister of Maritime and Fishery (MKP) Susi Pudjiastuti hopes that the EU would 'red card' the White Elephant country. She thinks it would provide good impact on Indonesian fishery sector.

"I hope they get the red card. If so, our fishery sector will be better," mentioned Susi in her speech at the Mina Bahari Building I, Ministry of Maritime and Fishery (KKP), Central Jakarta, Tuesday (12/15/2015).

However, she said that Thailand is working hard to remove EU's sanctions. Should the sanction is removed, Thailand will again receive free entry tariff.

"Last time EU almost lifted the ban. If it is cleared, then they will have zero percent (tariff) again. It is what we do not want," she complained.
