medcom.id, Jakarta: The United Kingdom (UK) holds a referendum today to decide whether the country should leave or remain in the European Union (EU). Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) deputy chairman Shinta Widjaja said Brexit will not have significant effect to Indonesia.
However, she believes that it could disrupt the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA) negotiation.
"our trade and investment will not be affected. However, the withdrawal of the United Kingdom (UK) from the European Union (EU) could disrupt the IEU-CEPA negotiation," she said to Metrotvnews.com in Jakarta, on Thursday (6/23/2016).
According to her, Brexit will decrease the trade value of the agreement. "Without UK, the trade value will be changed," she added.
The Indonesian government expects the IEU-CEPA negotiation could be completed next year. Officials have finished the preliminary discussion last April.
