medcom.id, Jakarta: Indonesian Chamber of Commerce (Kadin) urged the government to build international cruise terminal able to dock foreign cruise ships. The policy could boost tourism industry in the archipelago.
Kadin Chairman, Rosan Perkasa Roeslani said the government is currently developing ten new tourism destinations: Kepulauan Seribu in Jakarta, Toba Lake in North Sumatra, Mount Bromo in East Java, Labuan Bajo in Flores, Mandalika in West Nusa Tenggara, Morotai in Maluku, Wakatobi in South East Sulawesi, Tanjung Lesung in Banten, Belitung and Yogyakarta.
"We appreciate the government for developing 10 new tourism destinations. But on the other side, the government should build infrastructures to reach the destinations. It is useless to develop tourism spots but there is no transportation, no information," said Rosan, Jakarta, Tuesday (4/5/2016).
Currently, tourism is the fourth largest forex contributor to Indonesia. He thinks the industry will continue to grow. "For the next 10-15 years, (tourism) could be Indonesia's number two or number one forex contributor," assured Rosan.
Infrastructure development supporting tourism is crucial. Rosan lamented that Indonesia does not have any international cruise terminal to support its tourism industry.
"We are a maritime country, but Indonesia does not have any single international port for foreign ships. It is only going to be built in Banyuwangi. Even Singapore has four, Thailand has four. We need to build this kind of port," affirmed Rosan.
