medcom.id, Jakarta: Ecommerce industry in Indonesia is still small compared to several Asian countries especially China.
CEO of Tokopedia, William Tanuwijaya explained the penetration of ecommerce in Indonesia is only one percent from total population compared to China with 13 percent.
"However, it is only a matter of time to grow," explained William when met in Jakarta, Monday (2/29/2016).
William added every country has its own economic strength which could influence the development of its ecommerce industry.
"For example, China is better in manufacturing sector while India leads in human resources. What about Indonesia? Indonesia is strong in small and medium businesses (UKM). 58 percent of Indonesia's GDP is from that sector," he explained.
The more small businesses players who understand (online) technology, then the market penetration of ecommerce in Indonesia will increase significantly.
"The more small businesses go online, then there will be more number of ecommerce players in Indonesia," he concluded.
