medcom.id, Jakarta: An official of PT Bank Mandiri (Persero) Tbk admitted that the loan provided by China Development Bank (CDB) is utilized as the funding of government infrastructure projects. Moreover, Mandiri Bank, along with BNI and BRI were awarded with USD1 billion respectively.
Director of Bank Mandiri, Budi G Sadikin, stated that the availability of the funds possessed by Indonesian banks have only reached at around Rp400 trillion. However, the needs of infrastructure development have reached more than Rp5,500 trillion.
"Currently, the available funds are at around Rp400 trillion in the country," mentioned Budi in a joint work meeting with the House of Representatives' Commission XI at the Parliamentary Building, Jakarta, Tuesday (3/15/2016).
He took an example of one of the government's huge projects, the development of 35,000 megawatts (mw) of electricity. If 1 mw needs USD2 million, the total needed funds will reach USD70 billion.
Aside from that, Budi continued, the government's infrastructure projects are also intended for toll roads, ports, airports and other sectors. However, to build 1,000 kilometers (km) of road will take at around Rp100 trillion.
"I spoke with Minister Rini (Minister of State-Owned Companies), that the constructions are not paid by water or coffee, but with money. If we were to build projects such as ports or New Priok, where does the money come from? Rp400 trillion is not sufficient, so we need a loan," he concluded.
