medcom.id, Jakarta: Southeast Asian countries have initiated the establishment of ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). The Association of Indonesia Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) mentioned automotive industry has implemented free market since 2010.

Gaikindo's secretary general Noegardjito believes domestic automotive industry will not be surprised with AEC. "For automotive industry, it has been since 2010. We have exported various products to ASEAN countries. Regarding our preparation, it has been a while and we are prepared," he said last week.

Toyota-Astra Motor media chief Dimas Aska said his company has been prepared for AEC. Toyota-Astra has taken several measures so it can compete in the free market.

Not all company is ready with tightened competition. Recently, Ford decided to leave Indonesian market because it only controls small market share in the country.

Ford Motor Indonesia has confirmed the company will officially stop its operation in the second semester of 2016.
