medcom.id, Jakarta: The government decided to improve the irrigation system to support food resilience. Good irrigation system is important to support agricultural production.
Coordinating Minister of Economy, Darmin Nasution said irrigation is crucial issue in increasing food resilience.
"We have to sit down together in observing this irrigation issue as it is crucial in supporting food resilience," said Darmin during a coordination meeting, Jakarta, Tuesday (4/5/2016).
He explained the coordination of irrigation system will strengthen the stability of food production. "We want to maintain the stability of production and food price, especially rice," added Darmin.
Central government is responsible to maintain dams, primary canals and secondary canals. Meanwhile, local government is responsible to maintain tertiary canals.
Darmin urged officials to improve damaged irrigation canals. "The meeting is to consolidate the data of farmlands and irrigated areas. Drainage basins must be preserved to maintain water volume in dams," he concluded.
