medcom.id, Jakarta: The Indonesian government has announced the country's cigarette excise tax will increase by an average of 10.04 percent in 2018.

"The increase will not be implemented this year. It will be included in the 2018 state budget draft," Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution said in Central Jakarta on Thursday afternoon.

"Some stakeholders want higher cigarette excise tax. Others want lower cigarette excise tax," he said.

The cigarette excise tax revenue target was set at Rp147.4 trillion in the amended 2017 state budget. It was increased to Rp148.23 trillion in the 2018 state budget draft.

"The industry has been weakening in the past few years. It has proposed less  additional costs," Indonesian Cigarette Manufacturers Association (Gaprindo) chairman Moehaimin Moefti said.
