medcom.id, Banten: President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) officially launched Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) building. He wanted the creative economy era to become the backbone of Indonesia's economy.
"I am certain the creative economy era may become the backbone of Indonesia's economy," said Jokowi at BSD City area, South Tangerang, Banten, Tuesday (8/4/2015).
According to Jokowi, creative industry may create an additional value and adds up to the cultural image and identity. Therefore, he felt the urge to form a Creative Economy Agency (Barekraf) under the leadership of Triawan Munaf.
"The faith urged me to establish Barekraf. I hope it may work swiftly and accelerate developments in the sector. Triawan did not come from abroad, but from a professional," added the husband of Iriana.
Aside from that, the president continued, a good building is needed to host various exhibitions and performance arts from the creative industry players. "We need this kind of building," he concluded.
Present in the event was the Minister of Communication and Informatics Rudy Antara, Minister of Industry Saleh Husein, Chairman of Indonesian Creative Economy Agency Triawan Munaf, Acting Governor of Banten Tano Karno and the CEO of Sinarmas Land Group Michael Widjaja.
ICE is built on an area of 220,000 square meter in the commercial development area of BSD City, Serpong. As the center of exhibition and convention, ICE has 10 halls with the width of 50,000 meter square, 50,000 square meter outdoor exhibition space, convention hall facility and 33 units of meeting rooms with the capacity of 10,000 people.
