Gov't Announces Tobacco Tax Increase for 2017

medcom.id, Jakarta: The Finance Ministry has announced tobacco tax increase for 2017. Tobacco taxes will increase 10.54 percent on average.
 
Tax for machine-produced white cigarettes will increase by 13.46 percent. Meanwhile, tax for handmade clover cigarettes will not change. 
 
Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati conducted meetings with stakeholders before deciding the increase. She also studied all related aspects.

"Such as the welfare of workers and tobacco farmers," Sri Mulyani said in a press conference in Jakarta on Friday (9/30).
 
Sri Mulyani mentioned the increase is necessary to control tobacco consumption in the country.
