medcom.id, Jakarta: Minister of Finance Bambang Brodjonegoro asked Directorate General of Tax (DGT) to study leaked offshore financial data dubbed as Panama Papers.

"I have asked DGT to study the data in the internet called Panama Papers," Bambang said, Jakarta, Tuesday (4/5/2016).

Bambang revealed DGT is currently gathering various information to boost tax revenue. DGT is going to find out the truth behind the leaked data.

"We will study the data. We will see whether it is valid or not. We will compare it with our data," Bambang added.

Panama Papers mentioned several Indonesian companies and businessmen. The reveal coincides with the government's effort to track persons who put their money in tax haven countries.

"We will investigate assets owned by Indonesians that has never been reported in the tax report," he continued.

The government prepares tax amnesty for persons who are willing to return their assets to the country. Meanwhile, the ones who refuse too cooperate will be given sanction.

"That is tax avoidance. We have sanction for that. The penalty could be up to 48 percent," he stated.
