medcom.id, Jakarta: State-owned electricity company PLN has allocated Rp156 billlion for electricity development in 14 regencies in Papua and West Papua provinces.
The 14 regencies are Yahukimo, Puncak Jaya, Yalimo, Central Membramo, Membramo Raya, Lanny jaya, Tolikara, Puncak, Deiyai, Arfak Mountains, Raja Ampat, Tambrauw and Wondama Bay.
PLN director for Maluku and Papua region Haryanto WS mentioned that the program is called Bright Papua 2020 Program.
"In the first phase, PLN will manage and operate power plants in five regencies namely Raja Ampat, Arfak Mountains, Deiyai, Wondama Bay and Yahukimo," said Haryanto at PLN headquarters, Jakarta, Monday (8/15/2016).
Haryanto revealed electrification ratio in Papua province has reached 45.93 percent. Meanwhile, electrification ratio in West Papua province is at 82.7 percent.
