medcom.id, Jakarta: The Industry Ministry has requested industrial gas price to be lowered to around USD3-USD4 per MMBTU.
"Currently, it is USD9 per MMBTU," Industry Ministry expert staff for industrial resources Dyah Winani Pedjiwati said here on Wednesday (8/231/2016).
Dyah believes the policy will reinverogate industry sector in the country. Indonesian products will be more competitive compared to other ASEAN countries in the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) era.
"If the gas is expensive, the products will also be expensive," she continued.
"Gas sector is divided into upstream, midstream and downstream sectors. I think the problem is in the midstream sector," she elaborated.
The industrial gas price in Singapore is USD4-USD5 per MMBTU, while the price in Malaysia is USD4.47 per MMBTU.
