medcom.id, Jakarta: Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Sudirman Said witnessed the signing of cooperation agreement between PT Pertamina and NAtional Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) on Monday, May 30. Pertamina is going to purchase 600,000 metric tons (MT) of liquified petroleum gas (LPG) from Iran.
Sudirman mentioned that the cooperation is important to ensure national energy security.
"This is our third cooperation with Iran. Economic and business relations between the two countries continue to improve," said Sudirman in a written statement, Monday (5/30/2016).
The signing ceremony was held in Tehran, Iran. It was attended by Sudirman and Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanggeneh.
Pertamina's vice president communication Wianda Pusponegoro explained the agreement will be effective in the fourth quarter of 2016. NIOC will deliver 88,000 MT of LPG this year, while the remaining 512,000 MT of LPG will be sent next year.
"This is strategic agreement as demand for LPG continues to increase," she said.
"Pertamina and NIOC also agreed to continue discussion regarding crude oil supplies for Pertamina and cooperation in upstream sector," she continued.
