medcom.id, Jakarta: Bank Indonesia (BI) believes that zakat can be alternative source to finance development programs in the country.
"This is our idea to introduce zakat as alternative source of financing for national development," said Deputy Governor of BI Perry Warjiyo, jakarta, Monday (5/16/2016).
He added that Indonesia can optimize zakat for national development. He mentioned that Islamic financial system in the country has been well developed.
However, the idea is still in early stage. Perry admitted Indonesia still does not have enough human resources.
"The main challenges are education and public awareness. The supply of experts is also still lacking," he concluded.
