Wind Energy Development in Indonesia Hampered By Incompatible Infrastructures

Annisa ayu artanti • 25 April 2016 13:44
medcom.id, Jakarta: The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources stated that the wind energy development in Indonesia is slow because previous government procured foreign technology without looking its specification.

An expert staff at the ministry, Tri Mumpuni Iskandar, revealed the technology purchased by previous government is designed for sub-tropical climate. Indonesia has a tropical climate.

"Many wind turbines cannot work because we imported them from sub-tropical region," said Tri during public discussion in Jakarta recently.

Tri explained Indonesia does not need sophisticated  wind turbine. Wind turbine with simple technology is more preferable because it will be placed in remote areas.

Simpler wind turbine could also attract people to develop their own wind turbine. "The important thing is how to approach people to develop their own. So we can produce it ourselves," she concluded.
