Kalla Calls for Realistic Expectations As Economic Growth Target Lowered

Dheri Agriesta • 09 June 2016 11:42
medcom.id, Jakarta: The government and the House of Representatives Commission XI overseeing financial affairs agreed to cut the economic growth target from 5.3 percent to 5.1 percent. Vice President Jusuf Kalla stated the government should be realistic about the current economic condition.

"We should be realistic, no country can set high target right now," said Kalla at the Vice President's Office, Jakarta, Wednesday (6/8/2016).

Kalla assessed the new economic growth target is reasonable. He believes the government is capable to reach it.

The Golkar politician explained Indonesia's economy currently hampered by falling exports and imports. The slow trade causes lower tax revenue which in turn affects the state budget.

"That is why we revised it from 5.3 to 5.1 percent," he continued.

The cut was agreed during work meeting between the government and Commission IX on Tuesday, June 7.
