medcom.id, Jakarta: The desire of Indonesia to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) has caused various critics. It is considered to weaken Indonesia in several certain fields.

"Indonesia is to join TPP, it is as if we are tied to weaken ourselves, especially on environmental standards," said the Head of Advocation Department, Nur Hidayati Walhi, in a discussion in Bakoel Koffie, Central Jakarta, Sunday, November 1, 2015.

He thinks the trading scheme applied by TPP is to deregulate several regulations established by Indonesian government. He is worried that the deregulation is to lead to the weakening of ecological protection.

"If it is regulated, then it will be said as causing obstacles. As the World Trade Organization (WTO), saying that there will be restricted trade should a regulation is established," mentioned Nur Hidayati Walhi, or often called as Yaya.

Therefore, Yaya continued, it is the challenge of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), on how far that the government may withstand the temptations of foreign interests. Yaya hopes that the government is to continue the commitment towards national interests.

"So the deregulation of a safeguard system to protect the nation's and environmental interests," explained Yaya.
