medcom.id, Jakarta: Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources claimed they cannot buy divestment offer from PT Freeport Indonesia. The mining company offered 10.64 percent of shares worth USD1.7 billion.
The ministry's director of mineral and coal Bambang Gatot said government does not has budget to acquire the shares. "Government will not buy the shares because we do not have budget allocation for it," he said in Jakarta, Thursday (1/21/2016).
Bambang explained the shares could still be bought by state-owned enterprise or local government.
Previously, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Sudirman Said mentioned government is optimistic it could buy shares from Freeport.
"The order is government, state-owned enterprise and then local government. If all cannot buy the shares, it will be offered to private sector. We will see. Government wants to take this opportunity," he said.
