Qatar Invited to Develop Mandalika

medcom.id, Jakarta: The Indonesian government has invited the Qatari government to develop the Mandalika Special Economic Zone.

The special economic zone is located in southern Lombok island. It is reportedly designed as a halal tourism destination.

The Qatari government is interested to improve transportation access to the special economic zone. It is also ready to build a halal resort at the special economic zone.

"The cooperation has been delayed for long period of time," Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said at the Presidential Palace Complex on Monday afternoon.

Qatari Emir Syeakh Tamim bin Hamad al-Tsani traveled to Indonesia earlier this month. He met with President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo at Bogor Palace.

The two leaders discussed a number of bilateral cooperation, including tourism cooperation. The two governments signed five memoranndums of understanding (MoUs) on diplomacy, education, transportation, aviation and sport.

"Indonesia will assist Qatar to invest in the country," Jokowi said.
