Power Plants the Biggest Coal Consumers in Indonesia

medcom.id, Jakarta: Domestic coal consumption increased by eight percent in the first quarter (Q1) of 2016, according to data from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
 
The ministry spokesperson Sujatmiko mentioned that the consumption rose from 23.58 million tons in Q1-2015 to 25.52 million tons in Q1-2016.
 
"Domestic consumption increased 8 percent in Q1-2016 compared to Q1-2015," Luky said at his office, on Tuesday (7/12/2016).

Power plants contributed 80 percent of the total consumption. Cement industry was in the second place with 10 percent.
 
Several new power plants boosted the consumption including Celukan Bawang power plant with the capacity of 426 megawatts.
 
Meanwhile, domestic coal production decreased from 143.68 million tons in Q1-2015 to 101.22 million tons in Q1-2016.
