medcom.id, Jakarta: Indonesian automotive industry is considered not prepared for Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP). Indonesia Automotive Institute (IAI) secretary general Yanuarto Widihandono stated Indonesian automotive industry is weaker compared with many TPP members.
"Our competitiveness level is -0.23," said Yanuarto in a discussion here, Wednesday (6/1/2016).

He explained that Indonesia does not have enough local tier two and tier three suppliers. It makes Indonesian automotive companies rely on imports which weakens competitiveness.
"We lack of tier two and tier three suppliers. Our automotive industry will trail behind. We need to develop the industry first," he continued.
Economist from Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (Indef) Enny Sri Hartati also believes TPP will harm Indonesia's economy. She argued TPP will not improve the country's balance of trade.
"We are panic because Malaysia and Vietnam have joined TPP. We want to follow them, but we ignore the consequences," she said.
