medcom.id, Jakarta: Coordinating Minister of Economy Sofyan Djalil admitted he has not yet received any reports on cyber attacks in the banking system causing the loss of clients' funds. Nevertheless, he acknowledged the potential of threats towards the current banking system.

"I have not received any reports (on cyber attacks to banks) by system, but the threat potentials are present," he stated in the National Symposium of Cyber Security, which took place at Borobudur Hotel, Lapangan Banteng Selatan, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (6/3/2015).

He put an example of Sony Corporation, which faced problems when attacked. "Let us see how Sony was attacked. Sony has great resources, but when attacked, they crumbled. So attack threats are always present," he continued.

Nevertheless, he is not too worried about the threats in (Indonesia's) banking system as he is assured that Indonesian banks have sufficient resources to insure the security of the available networks.

Even so, Sofyan is worried that the current security systems in the government is still very low. Despite several ministries possessing their own networks, many are still facing low level of security in their respective ministries.

"Therefore, the Coordinating Minister of Politics, Law and Security's speech had shown a national scale threats, which is why we are in need of establishing (of National Cyber Agency)," he concluded. (EPS)
