medcom.id, Jakarta: Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Agus Martowardojo believes the current strengthening of the rupiah is supported by improving economic fundamentals.
Economic growth in the second quarter of 2016 reached 5.18 percent, while inflation rate until July 2016 reached 3.21 percent.
"The strengthening of the rupiah is also influenced by capital influx and Indonesian companies releasing their foreign currencies," Agus said at his office, Jakarta, Monday (8/15/2016).
Agus underlined that BI will always monitor the currency market. The central bank doesn't want the rupiah to be overvalued.
"We want the rupiah to be aligned with the economic fundamentals," he added.
