medcom.id, Jakarta: The government plans to allocate budget for the development of e-commerce industry in the country. President Joko Widdo mentioned that it could be included in the revised state budget this year.

"If it is possible, we should do it. We will consult the Ministry of Finance," said Jokowi in the opening ceremony of Indonesia E-Commerce Summit & Expo (IESE) 2016, Serpong, Wednesday (4/27/2016).

Jokowi explained Thailand has allocated Rp7 trillion to develop its e-commerce industry this year. "Other countries have started it. We should not be left behind. We commit to support local start-ups," he continued.

"I am confident we already have the right ecosystem. It has emerged in almost all sectors like retail, agriculture and hospitality. The government has an obligation to promote this," he added.

E-commerce industry in Indonesia is expected to reach Rp120 trillion in 2016. In the next three years, the value of the industry could reach Rp1,700 trillion.
