medcom.id, Jakarta: The Indonesian government plans to open its market for Latin American and European beef products.

State Logistics Agency (Bulog) director Djarot Kusumayakti mentioned that the government eyes beef imports from Mexico, Argentina, Brazil and Spain.

"We want to diversify our beef imports," he said at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Wednesday (8/10/2016).

"Hopefully, it could gradually reduce beef prices," he continued.

Minister of Agriculture Amran Sulaiman confirmed the plan. According to him, the government wants to import more than 10 thousand tons of beef from Latin America and Europe.

Currently, Indonesia's main sources of beef imports are Australia, New Zealand, United States, Canada and Japan.
