Kadin & Apindo Object Public Housing Savings Draft Bill

Husen Miftahudin • 02 February 2016 15:13
medcom.id, Jakarta: Indonesian Chamber of Commerce (Kadin) and Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo) object draft bill on public housing savings (Tapera) as it would give additional burden to the private sector.

Kadin chief Rosan P Roeslani explained Tapera program is intended to provide housing for low-income citizens. However, the draft bill would require employers to set aside three percent of worker's income for the program.

"Employers have set aside 10.24 to 11.74 percent of worker's income for health and employment security programs," explained Rosan in his office, Jakarta, Tuesday (2/2/2016).

Similar to Rosan, Apindo chief Haryadi Sukamdani also thinks the draft bill will be burdensome for the private sector. Employers are required . Haryadi explained from the three percent, 0.5 percent will be shouldered by employers while 2.3 percent will be shouldered by employees.

"We firmly reject the draft bill as it is not aligned with effort to create competitive investment climate. This would add unnecessary expense to companies," concluded Haryadi.
