medcom.id, Jakarta: Bank Indonesia (BI) lowered its benchmark interest rate (BI rate) from 7.25 percent to 7 percent. BI also lowered lending facility rate to 7.5 percent and deposit facility rate to 5 percent.
BI Governor Agus Martowadojo said positive macroeconomic condition and stable global economy opened opportunity for monetary easing.
"This decision aligned with growing room for monetary easing," said Agus during press conference, Jakarta (2/18/2016).
BI also lowered statutory reserve requirements from 7.5 percent to 6.5 percent that will be effective in March 16, 2016.
Agus mentioned BI will continue cooperation with the government on inflation, growth stimulus and structural reform.
BI lowered its rate for the second consecutive times in 2016. Previously in January 2016, the central bank lowered its rate from 7.5 percent to 7.25 percent.
