medcom.id, Jakarta: Central Agency on Statistics (BPS) announced inflation in January 2016 reached 0.51 percent or 4.14 percent year on year.
It was the lowest inflation in January since 2010 excluding last year where BPS recorded 0.24 deflation due to fuel prices cut.
"Hopefully this signals a good start," said BPS chief Suryamin in a press conference, Jakarta, Monday (2/1/2016).
Suryamin said 75 cities had inflation while seven cities had deflation. The highest inflation happened in Sibolga with 1.82 percent while the lowest inflation happened in Padang with 0.02 percent.
Staple food recorded 2.2 percent inflation, the highest last month. While transportation, communication and financial services recorded 1.11 percent deflation.
"Chicken meat, chicken egg, shallot, garlic and rice were the biggest contributor for inflation," he concluded.
