medcom.id, Jakarta: The Agriculture Ministry believes Indonesia can be rice exporter country next year. Indonesia is set to record rice surplus in the end of this year.
Agriculture Ministry spokesperson Agung Handriadi said te supply until the end of the year will be around 43.69 million tons, while the demand will be only around 32.3 million tons.
Therefore, the rice surplus in the end of the year will be around 11.38 million tons.
"We can export rice because we have rice surplus," Agung said here on Tuesday (8/23/2016).
Rice is the most popular staple in Indonesia. Rice self sufficiency is an important issue in the country.
