medcom.id, Jakarta: Industry Minister Airlangga Hartarto said lower industrial gas prices will boost petrochemical industries in the country.
"When was the last petrochemical plant built in Indonesia? 1998 by PT Tuban Petrochemical Industries," he said at his office in Jakarta on Friday (9/23/2016).
Airlangga explained natural gas is essential for petrochemical industries, especially fertilizer industry. "It contributes 70 percent of the total cost," he added.
The Golkar politician mentioned the global gas prices currently are declining. Gas prices in Russia currently are around USD2.5 per MMBTU. "Indonesia should lower gas prices soon," he stated.
