Gov't to Cover Widening Budget Deficit

Suci Sedya Utami • 08 April 2016 15:47
medcom.id, Jakarta: Minister of Finance Bambang Brodjonogoro mentioned his office has prepared several measures to cover the widening deficit. The government previously revealed that deficit in 2016 State Budget would increase from 2.15 percent to 2.5 percent.

Bambang explained the deficit will be covered by last year's budget surplus and new loans.  "It will be covered by our own treasury as well as new loans from either multilateral loans or market," he said at his office, Jakarta, Friday (4/8/2016).

The deficit is widening due to lower tax revenue. Bambang revealed tax from oil and gas sector would decline Rp17 trillion.

Non-tax revenue from natural resources is also predicted to decrease around Rp70 trillion. "Non-tax revenue from oil and gas sectors would decline Rp50.6 trillon while non-tax revenue from mining sector would decline Rp25 trillion," he concluded.

The government is scheduled to submit the revised 2016 State Budget to the House of Representatives in May.
