medcom.id, Jakarta: The government currently is boosting the improvement of national electrification by developing the regional energy potentials.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Sudirman Said mentioned that the ratio of national electrification is still low, especially on West Kalimantan, where the ratio percentage of new electrification was only at 79.77 percent. Nevertheless, the province has more than 200 small islands, as 50 percent has not yet been electrified.

"Therefore, the development of village electricity program, which is the government policy in electricity power for the expansion of electricity access to the unreachable areas by the electric distribution network," said Sudirman as quoted by the official website of the ESDM Ministry, Jakarta, Wednesday (9/16/2015).

The program is the government assignment to the state electricity company (PLN) to electrify the rural communities where the funding is obtained from the State Budget (APBN), as focused on the provinces with the low Electrification Ratio.

As information, currently there are five diesel power plants in West Sumatra Province, with the capacity of 4,100 MW. Entirely, the West Kalimantan Province has the supply capacity of 343.26 MegaWatt (MW), but when the peak load reached 368.08 MW, a deficit of 24.82 MW will be experienced.

In supporting the government development program of 35,000 MW, the government will also build steam power plants, among others in Parit Baru, Pantai Kura-Kura, Sintang and Ketapang.

Aside these power plants, the government will also boost Ketapang Biomass Power Plant, which is targeted to gain the capacity of 10 MW. Aside from power plants, within a short period, the development of transmission network will be conducted, with the total range of 2,512 kilometers.
