Jakarta: Indonesia is preparing to evacuate Indonesian citizens (WNI) in Iran. The Indonesian Ambassador to Iran Octavino Alimudin explained that this plan had been conveyed to Indonesian citizens in Iran.
"When there is a counterattack (from the United States), that is our time of evacuation," Ambassador Octavino said in Jakarta on Wednesday, January 8, 2020.
Octavino said that he will hold a coordination meeting with Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, Indonesian Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York Dian Triansyah Djani, and Indonesian Ambassador to Iraq Bambang Aninterestso in Jakarta. Three Indonesian citizens currently live in Iraq-Iran border regions.
"They are ready, there is one more person in another city. So we check one by one regarding their whereabouts," Octavino added.
According to him, if an evacuation is needed, the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran only needs to reach an Indonesian contact person in the city.
The majority of Indonesian citizens in Iran are in the center of cities such as Tehran and Qom. Most of them are students.
