Jakarta: Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad has expressed his condolences over the passing of Indonesian former President Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie.
"Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji'un. My condolences to the family and all Indonesian people on the passing of Bapak BJ Habibie. His death is a great loss. May Allah bless his soul. Al Fatihah," said the Malaysian leader on his official twitter account this evening.
Indonesia's third president passed away at the age of 83 at the Gatot Soebroto Central Army Hospital in Central Jakarta at 06:05 PM Western Indonesia Time (WIB) on Wednesday, September 11, 2019. He died of old age.
Habibie was born in Pare Pare, South Sulawesi on June 25, 1936. He was the fourth child in a family of eight children.
Habibie was the third President of Indonesia. He led the country from May 1998 to October 1999.
Habibie is considered as the pioneer of the Indonesian aviation industry. He is also widely known as the country's Father of Technology.
The co-founder of state-owned aerospace firm PT Dirgantara Indonesia will be buried at the Kalibata National Heroes Cemetery in South Jakarta tomorrow. The government has declared three days of mourning until Saturday, September 14, 2019.
