Jakarta: Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi is scheduled to join the 53rd ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM), Post Ministerial Conferences (PMCs) and Related Meetings Next week.
The event will be held virtually for four days from September 9 until September 12 and will be led by Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Bing Minh.
"At least 19 meetings will be held virtually," Minister Retno said during a virtual press briefing here on Friday.
According to Minister Retno, the forum will produce a number of outcome documents, including Joint Communique of the 53rd ASEAN Foreign Ministers.
"Joint Communique of the 53rd ASEAN Foreign Ministers will highlight our commitment to maintaining political and economic stability in the region," Minister Retno explained.
On Thursday, Minister Retno joined a meeting between G20 foreign ministers to discuss enhancing international cooperation to recover from the impacts of covid-19 pandemic as well as strengthening preparedness for future pandemics.
During the meeting, the ministers and representatives of international organizations discussed the importance of coordinating precautionary measures on cross-border management to protect lives and livelihoods.
In addition, they also acknowledged the importance of opening borders, uniting families, and promoting measures to allow the economy to thrive in light of the protective measures given by health organizations and national regulation during the covid-19 pandemic.
