Nusa Dua: Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi joined the 6th 2+2 Meeting of Indonesian and Australian Foreign and Defence Ministers in Nusa Dua, Bali, Indonesia on Friday, December 6, 2019. She appreciated Australia's support to the ASEAN Outlook on Indo-Pacific.
"Indonesia also appreciates Australia's support to the ASEAN centrality," Minister Retno said.
According to her, the ASEAN Outlook on Indo Pacific can be implemented through various concrete collaborations. As a result, regional stability will be maintained.
The Indonesian government invited the Australian government to attend the Indo-Pacific Infrastructure and Connectivity Forum. The event will take place in Indonesia in mid-2020.
During the 2+2 meeting, the two governments exchanged views on the shifts underway in Southeast Asia and the Indo-Pacific. They noted that Australia and Indonesia’s strategic outlooks are converging, as both seek to navigate a contested regional environment.
Moreover, they emphasised the two ountries’ shared interest in an Indo-Pacific region that is open, inclusive and prosperous, and where countries adhere to international law and other agreed rules and norms. They committed to work together towards a stronger and more resilient regional architecture in the Indo-Pacific and contribute to resolving shared regional and global challenges.
