Jakarta: Indonesian Ambassador to the United States, Mahendra Siregar has been appointed as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs to accompany Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi.
"Mahendra Siregar can be said to return home. He is very suitable for the position of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. President Joko Widodo's choice is very appropriate," Padjajaran University international relations expert, Teuku Rezasyah, told Medcom.id on Friday, October 25, 2019.
The duet is considered very good for the development of Indonesia's economic diplomacy. Reza believes that economic diplomacy would be more intense under this duet.
"This pair is expected to soon be able to build a sustainable and highly competitive Indonesian economic diplomacy," said Reza.
"This pair is also expected to be able to move quickly, if the President decide to restructure the Ministry of Foreign Affair to be able to carry out all functions of international trade," he added.
Mahendra Siregar previously served as the Indonesian Ambassador to the United States Born 57 years ago in Jakarta, he served as Deputy Minister of Trade in 2011. He served as the Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) in 2013-2014.
